Cape Jourimain Nature Centre seeks to fill the position of Operations Manager for this major non-profit, environmental centre at the New Brunswick end of the Confederation Bridge. The manager will be responsible for the day to day operation of the Centre which includes supervision and scheduling for a staff of 20-25; overseeing finances; coordinating volunteers and partners and establishing effective relationships and team building.

The ideal candidate would be bilingual (French & English); have management experience with a not-for-profit group; organizational and problem solving skills; some knowledge of retail and food services; and an interest in heritage and environmental education, ecotourism and green technology.

 Cape Jourimain Nature Centre is searching for an Education and Outreach Program Manager.

Cape Jourimain is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Education and Outreach Program Manager. The manager will have overall responsibility for the management and delivery of the natural and human history programs of the Centre, including training and supervision of staff, project fundraising, planning and delivery of special events, and reporting on project funding.  The Program Manager reports directly to and serves as back-up for the Manager of the Centre.   This position is presently for an 8 month term, with the possibility of extension to up to 12 months.  Salary to be determined according to qualifications.

 The ideal candidate would be bilingual (English and French); have considerable interest and experience in natural and human history and the field of education; experience with non-profit organizations; organizational and problem-solving skills; and some knowledge of ecotourism and green technologies.  Technical knowledge related to computer systems would be an asset.

Education Manager Job Description

 

The Education and Outreach Program Manager has overall responsibility for the management and delivery of the natural and human history interpretation program of the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre, including training and supervision of staff, project fundraising, planning and delivery of special events, and reporting (financial and written) related to project funding under the program.  The Program Manager reports directly to and serves as back-up for the Manager of the Centre.

 Specifically, the Education and Outreach Program Manager will be responsible for:

 Onsite Education Programs & Special Events

 

Plan, organize, implement and coordinate the delivery of all Education and Outreach programs about the natural and human history of Cape Jourimain National Wildlife Area and any special related events to be held at Cape Jourimain.

  1. Project Management and Reporting

Raise funding, including applying for grants, for the Education and Outreach Program (provincial, federal, non-government sources) and explore opportunities for potential program and project funding as they arise.

Manage project and grant funding to ensure budgets are respected, work with the administrative assistant to ensure that claims, financial reports, and correct allocations of project expenses are ensured.

Direct and oversee the implementation of Special Projects (such as the Lighthouse), relating to the mandate of the program.

Ensure that the Area’s trails are maintained, safe and adequately interpreted.

  1. Staff Training and Supervision

Hire, train and supervise staff under the Education and Outreach Program as required throughout the year.

Ensure other Centre staff receive training related to the Natural and Human History and the Education mandate of Cape Jourimain.

 School-based Education and Outreach

Develop curriculum-based programs in conjunction with schools both locally and regionally in Cape Jourimain’s key areas of action: biodiversity, species and habitat conservation, water and water conservation, green technologies, energy conservation and             climate change.

Develop and maintain contacts, forge links and working relationships with local and regional school boards as well as the Department of Education of New Brunswick with a view towards promoting the services, facilities and program capabilities of Cape Jourimain and fostering opportunities for it to provide expertise, services and education programs in its area of activity.

  1. External Relations

Develop contacts, forge links and network with federal and provincial governments, their departments and agencies, as well as non-government organizations involved in environmental education in the province and local and regional community groups, witha view towards promoting the agendas and services of Cape Jourimain and fostering opportunities for cooperation, and jointly develop projects.

Consolidate and expand the ongoing partnership with the federal Departments of Environment and Fisheries, including the Biosphere in Montreal and other federal and provincial agencies, identify further opportunities for cooperation and jointly develop projects.

  1. Education & Marketing Material

Develop content and information as well as ideas for enhancing and advancing Cape Jourimain’s education and marketing materials including brochures, signs, interpretation panels, etc. with a view towards making these more effective as educational tools.

Maintain and update all exhibits to ensure a challenging and informative experience for all visitors to the Centre.

Maintain and update the Centre’s website and social networks.

 Contribute to the programs and management of Cape Jourimain.

Contribute to the maintenance of the Centre’s computer and Wi-fi systems.  Responsible for troubleshooting software, hardware and network issues, including Microsoft Office applications, Point-of-Sale systems, and other Windows environment software, as well                  as credit and debit transaction devices.

Serve as back-up to the Manager of the Centre.

Assist in the promotion and marketing of the Centre and its other programs.

Brenda Trafford will teach the technique of
needle felting to make a colourful table mat.

will help participants make round baskets.

Searching for some extra work during the summer? Cape Jourimain is hiring! We are looking for an additional 20hr/week Maintenance/Custodial position, a full time restaurant position, and additional part time restaurant positions.
