Are you a teacher or the leader of a youth group? Why not visit Cape Jourimain and enjoy some of our FREE school programs!

1. Currents of Change

In this special session, students will learn about the impacts of climate change in Atlantic Canada and what individuals and communities can do to live more sustainably. They will also discover the innovative green technologies used at Cape Jourimain, including solar, geothermal, and compostable toilets!

Curriculum links: Grade 2 and 5 Social Studies, Grade 5, 6, 7 and 10 Science, Grade 12 Environmental Science and Advanced Environmental Science.

2. A Light on the Point

A visit to our newly renovated lighthouse, where students will have the chance to step inside and learn about the history of the lightstation and the crossing service to PEI.

This is a 1-hour tour and requires a 20-minute walk to the lighthouse and back.

Curriculum links: Grade 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 Social Studies, Grade 12 Canadian Geography, Grade 12 Canadian History.

3. Nature is Amazing

A guided nature walk to our local osprey nest where students will learn about the plants, birds, and animals who call Cape Jourimain home. Binoculars are provided.

Curriculum links: Grade 1, 4, 6, and 7 Science.

4. Legacy of Cape Jourimain

Join us on a journey to discover the history of Cape Jourimain. You’ll learn about the early history of the region, British occupation of the Maritimes, the treacherous iceboat service to PEI, the Confederation bridge, and much more!

Time permitting, this program will also include a visit to our on-site lighthouse!

Curriculum links: Grade 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 Social Studies, Grade 12 Canadian Geography, Grade 12 Canadian History.

5. Shore Explore

An exploration of Cape Jourimain’s shore habitat, students will learn about the ecosystem of the Northumberland Strait, the local fishing industry, and how beaches are formed.

Conditions permitting, the program will also include catch-and-release seine net fishing.

Curriculum links: Grade 1, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10 Science.

  • Each program lasts approximately 40-50 minutes.
  • Groups are advised to register at least one week in advance.
  • Mosquitoes and blackflies are to be expected!
